Italy - Somalia Treaty of Friendship (1960)

Title

TREATY OF FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN SOMALIA AND ITALY

Preamble

The President of the Somali Republic and the President of the Italian Republic, animated by the common desire to reaffirm and consolidate the close relations of friendship that unite the Somali people and the Italian people by giving them farme more liboro, have decided to conclude a Treaty of Friendship.

For this purpose they have designated as their Plenipotentiaries :

THE PRESIDENT OF THE SOMALI REPUBLIC

H.E. the Honorable Dr. Mohamed Scek Mohamed Sabiou

THE PRESIDENT OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC

H.E. the Honorable Amb. Carlo Russo

who, having exchanged their Full Powers found in good and due form, have agreed as follows:

Body

Article 1.

There shall be inviolable peace and perpetual and sincere friendship between the Somali Republic and the Italian Republic.

Article 2.

The High Contracting Parties drawing inspiration from the principles established by the Charter of the United Nations, affirm their full and active adherence to the purposes of that Organization, specialmentte with regard to the consolidation of general peace and the strengthening of international cooperation.

Article 3.

1. Each of the High Contracting Parties shall establish at the other Party its own diplomatic representation with the rank of Embassy.

2. Each of the High Contracting Parties may establish its own consular offices in the territory of the other.

Article 4.

For the purpose of permanently ensuring mutual cooperation at the international level, the Governments of the High Contracting Parties

Contracting Parties shall keep in close contact through exchanges of information and periodic consultations on matters of comme interest.

Article 5.

The nationals of each country will be guaranteed protection and security for their persons and those of the other country in the territory of the other.

Article 6.

This Treaty shall be ratified and enter into force on the same day as the exchange of the instruments of ratification which shall take place in Rome as soon as possible.

Conclusion

In witness whereof the respective Plenipotentiaries have signed this Treaty and have affixed their seals thereto.

Done at Mogadishu, this 1st day of July, 1960 in duplicate.
